Salkantay Trek crosses the Salkantay Pass at 4600m, descends into the cloud forest and passes through the archaeological place named Llactapata, with one of the wonderful views of Machu Picchu.
The trail starts in Challacancha or Soraypampa, a couple of hours away from Cusco and ends in Hidroelectrica giving access to town of Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu.This trek was nominated as the 25 best Trek in the World, by National Geographic Adventure Travel Magazine. Salkantay has some outstanding views and the altitude will descend till 1,000 meters above sea level, the lands cape is gorgeous and not too steep.
The purpose of the Salkantay Inca Trail to Machupícchu was religious and ceremonial, a pilgrimage that included rituals to honor the mountains and peaks and lakes of the route, like Salkantay and Humantay.
Day 1: CUSCO – MOLLEPATA – CHALLACANCHA – SORAYPAMPA – LAGUNA HUMANTAY - LODGE DEL CIELO
Begin your journey with a visit to the Tarawasi archaeological site. Trek to Soraypampa with a stop at Humantay Lake, an acclimatization day. Overnight at Lodge del Cielo, enjoying panoramic views of the Humantay Lake glacier.
Day 2: SORAYPAMPA – PASO SALKANTAY – WAYRACMACHAY – COLLPAPAMPA
Trek to Salkantay Pass, crossing the White River Valley and surrounding Humantay Peak. Descend through Wayracmachay to Collpapampa. Overnight at the Lodge del Cielo.
Day 3: COLLPAPAMPA – LA PLAYA – LUCMABAMBA – COCALMAYO - LODGE DEL CIELO
Hike through avocado orchards to Lucmabamba and then Cocalmayo. Continue to Aguas Calientes via hydroelectric station. Overnight at Lodge del Cielo.
Day 4: LUCMABAMBA – LLACTAPATA – AGUAS CALIENTES
Ascend to Llactapata Pass for a unique view of Machu Picchu. Descend to Aguas Calientes, ending the day with dinner and a briefing for the Machu Picchu visit.
Day 5: Visiting Machu Picchu Sanctuary
Take an early bus to Machu Picchu for a guided tour. Explore the city between 6 am and 7 am, followed by a visit to The Guardian House and time to explore independently.
Night 2: Indulge in our second night at Lodge del Cielo in Collpapampa campsite. Your accommodation includes a comfortable bed and a thick camping mattress, all provided at no extra cost. The campsite is enveloped by the presence of the Sacred Mountains.
Night 3: Immerse yourself in our third night at "Lodge del Cielo" in Lucmabamba campsite. Inside your dome, you'll find a cozy bed, available in twin or double (depending on your specified preferences). Surrounded by the raw beauty of the cloud forest, we'll be in close proximity to local families who, as heirs of the Inka culture, are delighted to share their lands with us.
Night 4: The fourth night includes a stay at the 2-star Hotel House of the Luz, located in the town of Aguas Calientes, also known as Machupicchu Village. If preferred, there's an option to upgrade to a 3-star hotel for an additional USD 45 per person. Hotel prices will vary based on your expectations and budget. The 2-star hotel in Aguas Calientes offers double or triple rooms, an elevator, private bathroom, hot shower, Wi-Fi, breakfast, and luggage storage while you explore Machu Picchu.

1. Humantay Lake:
Begin your adventure with a visit to the mystical Humantay Lake. 2. Salkantay Pass:

It’s a challenging but rewarding climb, and a chance to connect deeply with the natural world.
3. Wayracmachay and Collpapampa:
Descend into the lush, subtropical zone as you make your way to Wayracmachay and Collpapampa. These stops provide a glimpse into the rich biodiversity of the region, with unique flora and fauna. The vegetation changes dramatically, from high-altitude grasses and shrubs to lush rainforest, making the trek a visual and ecological journey.
4. Lucmabamba and Cocalmayo:
Explore Lucmabamba, a hidden gem where you can interact with local communities and learn about their way of life. The area is known for its coffee and tea plantations, offering a taste of the Andean way of life. After hiking through diverse terrain, arrive at the hot springs of Cocalmayo, a relaxing spot to unwind after a long day on the trail.
5. Machu Picchu:
